Rural France

I managed to keep my Wednesday date with my paintbrushes today, and here is the result. I am moderately pleased with this. There was a bit more in the foreground, but it suffered my usual vagueness, so I cropped it.

Here is the whole thing for comparison... thoughts?

The cropped picture gives a feeling of imminent arrival. I like the picture and the sky very much

Thank you both. Yes, I think you are right, the cropped one is better. I might well try to do this painting again and see if I can extend the background style further into the foreground.

I'm a bit yes and no on the cropped version. Yes it's good that you cropped out the forground grass or rushes or whatever that was but... I don't like that you cropped out the left-most building. I really like the line of those blue roofs and the cropped one added an interesting angle to the mix.

I'm for the uncropped version myself

Hello you came to visit me and I wanted to say thankyou for your kind words. I love your painting and prefer the cropped version it feels more balanced and simpler, the colours are fabulous too ~ Judy

Hello. I like the un-cropped version best. I really like the contrast in texture and direction that the grasses provide. Favourite bit the building roofs.

Don't sell yourself short. The cropped one may have a better balance (a bit like my photos) but you need to show what you see. The atmosphere is there. Dad. PS if you get this twice the first one did not seem to be accepted. D'oh. Homer can't cope with this modern technology!

I'm really pleased at receiving so many comments about my picture. Thank you to everyone. I think I'll do this picture again and try to improve the foregoround AND keep the line of the rooves as the main focal point, and see what that looks like. I'll post the second attempt too.
